India is currently witnessing a huge surge in number of covid-19 ( caused by Sars Cov-2 ) positives cases with more than 314,000 new cases registered yesterday. Hospitals are working under lot of stress with lack of available beds and supply of oxygen is at critical stages in many big cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Pune. Government is trying hard to make sure supply of medical oxygen is sufficient and reaches to people in desperate need. They are asking the concerned authorities to increase the production of medical oxygen and also requesting big industries to divert their oxygen supply to hospitals.

This huge sudden surge in India could be attributed to recently found triple mutant strain and two other highly transmissible strains observed in UK and South Africa, along with careless attitude of people due to relaxation of lock down rules. However there seems to some good news as Covaxin – Completely indigenous vaccine produced by Hyderabad based company – Bharat Biotech. and Covishield vaccine by Serum Institute of India, seems to neutralizing triple mutant strains with great efficiency. One more thing which might help is that, the Indian Government has announced vaccination for all above 18 years and this should also help in controlling spread of Covid-19 in India in coming six months. All the eligible citizens ( above 18 years of age) can be able to register themselves for vaccination through Arogya setu and CoWin platforms from April 28 , 2021.

Apart from Bharath Biotech’s Covaxin, Covishield from Serum Institute of India and Sputnik V vaccine from Russia will be used for vaccination from May 2021
